So this is it. London Fashion Week 2017 has officially been ended. What a show this year’s LFW it was!  Today, we are going to look back on what this big festival of the fashion world had to offer this year and what trends LFW designers foresee for the coming spring 2018. Who were the top fashion designers this year in our opinion, what did they impress us with, and where you will be able to buy all of their stuff with the ShopTrotter app.

As every year, London Fashion Week  is a real festival and celebration of fashion, designers and models. Every year in September London turns into a real mecca for all trends‘ lovers whose ultimate destination is the glittering world of fashion. This year was no different. Let us see which fashion designers visitted London this September and what trends they have to offer.

Before we move on to those that we love and know, let’s have a look at some fresh blood in the fashion world. Let’s meet the young and promising designers of LFW SS2018.

Young & Promising

Marta Jakubowski

That’s definitely our favourite! Marta Jakubowski is a Polish designer who grew up in Germany. She graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art in 2014 and worked with names like Alexander Wang, Jonathan Saunders, Bruno Pieters. She has set up her own fashion label just recently. You can find Jakubowski’s collections in boutiques of Rome, Florence, Tokyo, New York or Los Angeles, but in London you can buy her clothing items in Machine-A boutique. Marta’s name is definitely worth recording.

Vinti Andrews

Vinti Andrews is a truly London based brand. It has grown from collaboration of two individuals – Vinti Tan and Paul Andrews. Their collection is heavily influenced by the contemporary British culture while their fashion style is innovative and very unique. So if you want to look brill and fancy with a bit of British air around you, do go and see the duo’s collection. Re-constructed items, lots of details, graphic forms, theme of rebellion and freedom – it is all we like about it.

Katie Ann McGuigan

Katie Ann McGuigan is our favourite young designer of this year’s LFW. Fantastic vibrant colours, mixture of textiles, de-fragmented garments, long, crazy and colourful knitted sweaters. She offers ready-to-wear clothes in incredible prints and tell us to wear it all with modern, graphic silhouettes. She was born in Ireland and moved to London to graduate from the University of Westminster BA Fashion Design Womenswear course as recently as in spring 2016. Wow! Incredible dash to the fashion world. Everyone who loves colours, layered style and uniqueness will fall in love with her collection.

Alistair James

Alistair James is a fashion label combined of two designers, namely, Nicholas Alistair Walsh and David James Wise.

If you fancy a bit of a fable in your fashion style, made from alluring fabrics, with a bit of Englishness in it, you should see the duo’s collection. For us a bit gloomy and ghotic in style. But if you are a fun of such a style, you can easily buy their garments in stores like Liberty or Farfetch platform.

Natasha Zinko

Natasha Zinko is our next favourite of this year’s London Fashion Week. She designs jewellery and ready-to wear clothes in her London atelier. Natasha is originally from Ukraine, which is an added value in London where everything is so obviously British. She is a graduate of Central St Martin’s and a lawyer by education.

Natasha is one of the most talked-about newbies in London’s fashion world. Her story is one of the exciting and inspiring. She began by designing and manufacturing jewellery pieces for her close friends. Now she is an internationally recognized designer traded in the finest luxury shops worldwide.

Her collection is full of freedom, play with colours and proportions. She loves highlighting feminine characteristics in an unexpected way through very luxurious fabrics. She creates her fine jewellery of 18 carat gold and precious stones.

You can visit her in her flagship boutique in the centre of Mayfair on Maddox Street or buy her stuff in shops like Browns Fashion, Selfridges, Harrods or Matches.

Shrimps

Shrimps is a fashion brand from the young London-based designer, Hannah Weiland, launched in 2013. It is, starting from the label’s name, for those who see fun in fashion for sure. Although Hannah’s style may seem a bit childish and naive, it has nothing to do with what it presents. Hannah’s background is of serious History of Art studies and London College of Fashion education. She just loves playing with patterns, colours and fabrics.

You can buy the brand in Dover Street Market, Selfridges, Matches, and Colette Paris.

Designers that we Continuously Adore

Obviously the young designers do bring fresh air with them. They are pushing the boundaries in fashion that seem ‘unpushable’, but it is the ‘old’ masters who do the real show. During this year’s LFW it was no different. Catwalks by Tommy Hilfinger, Burberry, Erdem or Anya Hindmarch totally bought the audience. Here’s a quick roundup trough their proposals for Spring-Summer 2018:

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger does not need any introduction of course. We all love to have a dress or shoes or bags or in fact anything by Tommy. The brand is internationally recognized and although purely American, the British love him and allow him to join this very essence of the local fashion circle which London Fashion Week in fact is. Tommy gave a splendid show as usual, models (see Gigi Hadid’s smile!) love him and so do fashion journalists and fashion bloggers.

You can buy the brand in his flagship London boutiques in 63-65 Brompton Road and in 138 Regent Street.

Topshop Unique

Although Topshop is a high-street brand, it has successfully gained recognition during shows like London Fashion Week, with their first time on catwalk being in 2005. Each year Topshop Unique gives a stunning show, full of energy, satins, sequins and see-through dresses. They have always got fantastic catwalk models for their shows and use London spaces such as Tate Britain, Tate Modern or the old Eurostar terminal at Waterloo. Watching their collection you can believe in their motto, which says: ‘from runway to everyday’.

ERDEM

ERDEM is a well-established London brand, synonymous with powerful femininity. Their collections are versatile, where delicacy meets with the bold. Label’s founder Erdem Moralioglu is known for his experimental use of fabrics and vibrant prints. As he once said: ‘I rebel with lace and tulle’, and there is much truth in this when you look at all his collections.

The brand has been enjoying their flagship store in Mayfair since 2015 but you can also buy them in Selfridges, Matches and Harvey Nichols shops.

Anya Hindmarch

Anya Hindmarch does not need introduction, either. She founded her business in London in 1987 and has since grown into a global brand that has over 50 stores – including flagships in New York, London, Tokyo and LA. She has become iconic in the fashion world, famous for captivating shows, full of vibrancy and creativity.

Anya strongly supports British art and design with every single thing that she does. She has been so passionate about the British fashion industry that she has even been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) title in recognition of her contribution to the fashion industry in the UK. An interesting thing about her is that there are stores with Anya Hindmarch’s items where you can have your own name embossed on by in-store craftsmen in your own handwriting. You must visit her showroom in 118 New Bond Street to see her latest collections for yourselves. The SS2018 collection is available to buy now!

Temperley London

Alice Temperley founded her eponymous label in 2000. Temperley is a strongly feminine brand which comes from the British Heritage.  Her collections offer ready-to-wear range of daily, cocktail and evening attires. They are creative, modern, vibrant, and appreciated by confident women who love experimenting with textures and embellishments. Alice Temperley is definitely in the lead of British independent brands. Their flagship store is located on Burton Street, but you can also buy their designs in multibrands and department stores as Selfridges.

In a nutshell

London’s boutiques will have all the items in stock very soon, so plan you next shopping spree accordingly to follow a route of LFW designers’ stores. To find both hottest and lesser know labels download ShopTrotter app on your iPhone or Android device and get there easily!

And what is a must-have in Spring/Summer 2018 according to London Fashion Week designers?

Definitely utterly feminine floral dresses, combined with plastic-looking vinyl trenches, alpine knitted jumpers in crazy colours, reminding a bit of the Bridget Jones series, and an essential this year – mesh shopper bag. Obviously there is lots more to wear after this year’s LFW. A lot of red and green, shattered jeans coats matched with again red glossy highheels. If you wear any of the items, you will look trendy wherever you are. LFW has finished but we can still walk on our own catwalks, every day. And if you still feel you have not got enough, London Fashion Festival is still on.

Watch out this space. We will soon let you know what’s going on there and what‘s worth your attention as fashion lovers and passionate shoppers.
